Evidence base

NELSON trial 10-year follow-up (de Koning et al., NEJM 2020): low-dose CT screening reduced lung-cancer mortality by 24% in men and 33% in women among high-risk groups. For MRI: across the most common cancers, stage-I detection delivers 80-95% 5-year survival vs <30% at stage IV (Cancer Research UK, 2023).

Evidence base

ESC Guidelines (Visseren et al., Eur Heart J 2021) endorse carotid plaque imaging for cardiovascular risk stratification in selected adults. In randomised-trial meta-analyses, each 10 mm Hg reduction in systolic blood pressure was linked to 27% lower stroke risk and 17% lower coronary-heart-disease risk (Lancet 2016); each 1 mmol/L reduction in LDL cholesterol with statin therapy reduced major vascular events by about 21% (Lancet 2012).
